Attention: Writers, Poets, and Illustrators

Looking for work on the subject of Elemental: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Space

The Northwest Minnesota Arts Council (NWMAC) is pleased to announce a call for writings and illustrations on the subject of the elements, including earth, air, fire, water, and space for an upcoming exhibit July 30 – September 27 at the NWMAC Gallery at NCTC in Thief River Falls.

All pieces of work (written and illustration) will be framed by the Northwest MN Arts Council in an 8.5 x 11 frame. If your work is larger than 8.5 x 11 (for example a longer piece of writing or poetry, a larger illustration, etc.) let Trey know and we will work with you. 

Possible subjects include — 

Earth: Stone, mountain, valley, cave, desert, forest, marsh, beach island, dirt, soil, solid, richness, variety, Gnomes (mythology), Tarot: coin or pentacle, oxen, feet, where you live and work, money, place in the world, atoms, molecules, passive 

Air: sky, cloud, wind, breath, gas, hurricane, tornado, oxygen, aerial, sylphs (invisible beings in mythology), tarot: sword, mind, thinking, intellect, language, concepts, ideas, prayer, head, eagle, active

Fire: spark, dawn, sunrise, solstice, dusk, sun, heat, flame, lightening, purification, desire, love, erotic, summer, noon, warm, dry, salamender (can burst into flames in mythology), Tarot: wand, making or doing, sexual or creativity energy, imagination.

Water: Ocean, river, lake, whirlpool, waterfall, flood, bubble, drown, swim, depths, storm, rain, steam, fog, ice, life, undines (water-based nymphs or mermaids in mythology), Tarot: cup, love, angel, ribcage or heart, positive, friendship, motion. 

Space: Emptiness, vastness, welcome, embracing, open, eternal, spirit, either, quintessence (Latin for fifth element), soul, nothingness, formless, presence).

For more information and to submit your work for consideration please email Trey Everett at treyeverettcreates@gmail.com with a sample of your written work or a photo of your illustration by July 12. Multiple pieces can be submitted. If accepted please email or mail your unframed written work(s) and please mail your unframed illustration(s) to Trey at 414 Houston Avenue Crookston MN 56716. Please ensure that the artwork is received by Friday July 16th to allow time for framing and preparing artist information cards. Include with your submission(s) the following: Name, where you are from, title of piece, sale price, how buyer can contact you, anything you can add about your creative process, inspiration,  etc.
