“One of the greatest joys in my life is to be able to share what I do with others. As a teaching artist, I feel very lucky to be able to spend time in schools and communities, working with students, teachers and community members making their visions come to life through mosaics.”
Elizabeth Kitchell-Rockstad is a mosaic artist based in Northwest Minnesota with over 20 years of experience in the medium. A former K-12 art educator of 16 years, Elizabeth’s practice is rooted in a deep understanding of technique and a lifelong commitment to community arts. Her work is characterized by a signature focus on circles and mandalas—universal symbols of unity, eternity, and wholeness.
Elizabeth’s portfolio spans private gallery works, artist demonstrations and public/private installations, including community residencies and collaborative murals across Florida, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Oregon. Her work has been showcased in local collections and galleries such as Gallery 4 and Studio 176, as well as coastal venues like Imogen Gallery (OR) and West Holloway (DE).
A dedicated student of the craft, Elizabeth has studied under world-renowned mosaic leaders including Rachel Davies and Sherri Warner Hunter. She is an active member of the Minnesota Mosaic Guild (MMG), Fargo-Moorhead Visual Artists (FMVA), and the Society of American Mosaic Artists (SAMA). When not in her studio experimenting with stained glass, smalti, slate, or metal, she can be found supporting her family’s farm or finding inspiration at the lake.

Community Mosaic Residency
This residency encourages any club, organization or business to work together. This is a fun and effective way to introduce community building to a group of people of any age or ability.
School Mosaic Residency
This residency includes students designing mosaics and assembling them as well. School mosaics are typically placed on a permanent surface, such as windows or panels. Most residencies are 4-5 days of in-school time. However, the whole school can be involved, with the youngest grades laying a few tiles, and older students (grades 3 and up) using the mosaic wheel nippers. This is a wonderful project for adult volunteers and parent participation. Being a licensed K-12 Art teacher has given me the opportunity to connect my art form with core standards for the arts. I can address these standards directly to meet teacher’s needs in the classroom across curriculum.
If you have specific questions, contact me. I work predominantly in my home state of Minnesota, but am also happy to travel. studio413@ymail.com
