Jodi is a teacher in Ada and lives in Moorhead and offers a glass residency.
As an art instructor, Jodi is committed to three things: increasing student creativity, maximizing individual student performance, and encouraging students’ self-worth.
Jodi started Wolfnest Glassworks, a glass business over 30 years ago. She enjoys creating artwork in glass slumping/casting/fusing and glass beads, and recently began fusing photos on glass. Jodi blends the movement of hot glass and understands what the glass wants to do. She considers herself an object maker, having fun creating objects of art.
She has been practicing Aikido (a martial art) for over 23 years. The aikido practice plays a part in her artwork by trying to find balance within the artwork and within her. Jodi’s subject matter is mostly from nature, similar to the materials she’s using -- glass is just sand heated.
Glass has been in existence for a long time. The Egyptians made vessels and other objects in glass after they realized that heating sand from their fires produced glass. Glass is like a liquid; when hot it moves like molasses and when cold, its molecular structure is still moving. Light gets refracted through glass showing dazzling colors for the eyes.
Jodi is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Duluth with BFA and BAA degrees and a graduate of the Minnesota State University, Moorhead with an MLA degree. She has been teaching Art and Driver’s Education for 30 years currently at the Ada-Borup High School. She also has taught Motorcycle Safety for 32 years for the State of Minnesota and glass bead making for 25 years for the Minnesota State University, Moorhead. She has been a member of Art of the Lakes Art Gallery in Battle Lake for over 15 years.
“When I work with glass there seems to be a kinship with ancient glass artisans that touches me on a soul-filled level.”
