Maria Hammer
Crookston
Maria Hammer of Crookston is a freelance graphic designer, web developer, and marketing specialist. She also owns a consulting business focused on large corporations in the Dominican Republic and is responsible for the product design and marketing for Canna Corners stores (she and her husband own the stores, too).
Maria was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela and speaks both Spanish and English fluently. She has a master’s degree in public accounting and worked as a CPA in Venezuela. She holds diplomas in Fashion Design and Marketing and is a Certified Image Consultant.
Maria and her husband live outside of Crookston. Her hobbies include painting, drawing, crafting, gardening and farming, practicing yoga and meditation, traveling, and learning new skills. Maria is excited about “learning woodwork to build custom furniture and working on renovations for my 1920s farmhouse and other buildings on our farm outside Crookston.”
Maria has lived in multiple countries due to the social, economic, and political situation in Venezuela. Her family is spread across the globe, and staying connected involves coordinating video calls, visits, and reunions in different time zones.
Maria joined the board to “support initiatives that promote creativity and cultural diversity. Art has been a significant part of my life, serving as a safe space to express my thoughts and feelings on a deeper level. By serving on the board, I aim to bridge the gap between artists and the resources available to them, creating an environment where artists can flourish and making art accessible to everyone, regardless of their background.”
Maria believes that “art offers a unique way to understand and interpret the world. It inspires, challenges, and expresses emotions and ideas. I believe the arts play a crucial role in strengthening our sense of identity and belonging. They bring people together, encourage dialogue, and help us appreciate different perspectives, enhancing cultural value by promoting social cohesion and well-being. Arts are essential for a healthy, thriving community.”
