Over the course of her career, she’s presented workshops on publishing, editing, and organization for artists at a variety of venues. She holds BA and MA degrees from the University of Minnesota. An attorney from Springboard’s Minnesota Lawyers for the Arts (MnLA) program will cover intellectual property for visual and performing artists, focusing on copyright and trademark. Learn the difference between the two, how and why to register them, and how both can be used to protect your brand and your creative work.

This workshop is part of a series of virtual workshops being presented in partnership with Hennepin County Library. It is a part of Work of Art+, workshops that complement the 12-part Work of Art: Business Skills for Artists series, a professional development curriculum designed to teach business skills to artists in all disciplines. Meet the Presenter

Instructor: Hannah Lutz (she/her), Senior Associate, Taft
Bio: Hannah focuses her practice on trademark and copyright matters. She counsels clients in all areas of trademark portfolio management, and on trademark clearance searches in the U.S. and abroad. Hannah additionally advises clients regarding copyright protection, licensing, domain issues, UDRP proceedings, advertising and branding online and on social media, advertising claims, talent and influencer agreements, publicity rights, contests, sweepstakes, and promotions.

Prior to joining Taft, Hannah worked as an intellectual property associate at a well-known regional firm in Minneapolis. She also has experience prosecuting trademark applications including counseling on and responding to Office Actions, as well as filing and pursuing opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

Hannah earned her J.D. from Columbia Law School and her bachelor’s degree in philosophy and music from the University of Chicago. While in law school, Hannah served as the Executive Managing Editor of the Columbia Journal of Gender and Law.
